Many eye-catching plants can be kept indoors the entire year. So what is the grounds for us buying so many cut flowers? One of the most passionate flowers is considered to be the rose, yet everyday we cut down millions of them and even more so around Valentines day. A lot of garden centre sell great ranges of small roses in pots that can be kept indoors around the year and if you are fortunate they might bloom several times a year. There is always the orchid.

This is a enormous type of flowers and although they can be difficult to care for there are countless types currently easily available which are straightforward to care for, requiring minimal watering with plenty of bright but not direct daylight. Therefore with such a broad selection of stunning indoor flowering plants, why do we not purchase more of them?

Beneath there are 3 good points why indoor flowering plants will make a longer lasting and superior present than a bunch of flowers.

1.This is a present that will be about a lot longer – Even though we do not want to give unneccesary clutter to our acquaintances, a flowering house plant will brighten up a window or a table for far longer than a bunch of flowers.

2.Change the way we think? we are all conscious that the global environment needs our attention. When you give a bunch of flowers they are usually wrapped in paper and plastic, thus creating more environmental trash. With a plant in a pot, if it dies al least you can reuse it again.

3.Educating the next generation? we are constantly trying to educate our kids to respect the earth they live in, isn?t showing how simple it is to grow house plants a great example of the rewards of care and attention to detail?

Best of all it encouraged an appreciation in our children for living things. For example when we last moved house my 4 year old had planted some seeds, which had sprouted by the time we were ready to go away, these he gave away as going away presents. Far more pleasing than giving another plastic toy.
